Adding Lectures to a Course

As soon as you have created your online course (see How can I create corporate online courses) you can start adding content / lectures.

Schoox gives you a high degree of freedom on how to add lectures into a course. You can add lectures either by uploading your own files, by using web content or by using content from your personal or the public content library on Schoox.

To add lectures you have to go to the course administration panel (from the Training tab, select All Courses and then Manage Course associated with the course you want) and select Edit Lectures.

Once in the lectures list, adjust the settings to your liking. You can decide whether to allow the users to fast forward the videos/audios, to download the documents and /or to copy text from document lectures. Moreover, in case that you want either to update your lectures or to add new ones, you have also the option to manage the course progress for users who have already completed the course.

From the toolbar that appears on the Edit Lecture page you can add lectures with several ways.

From Library

By clicking on the "Add lecture" image you will be driven to your Academy Library on Schoox. A block at the bottom accommodates the lectures that already exist and an open session allows you to add new lectures by using content you have in your Academy Library with drag & drop.

The session with the block remains and follows you until you click on save or cancel.

Uploading Files

By clicking on images "Upload Video", "Upload Documents", "Upload Scorm", "Upload Presentation" you can upload a video file, a SCORM file, a document (doc, docx, pdf) or a presentation (ppt, pptx).

After clicking on the preferable image a popup window will appear. You can edit the Title of the file, the Description and add some tags. You can also select the course you want to add the file to.

Please Note

  • When you upload a file as a lecture, the file will also be stored in your personal library in private mode so that you can use it again.
  • When it comes to videos, you have the option to add subtitles by uploading the relevant file (ie. vtt, .srt). Please note that you should select the language prior to uploading.

  • You can also cancel the upload process if you have selected another file by accident for example. In order to do so you have to hover over the top bar. Once you hover, you will see the small X that appears at the top right corner. Click on the X button to remove the file from the uploader.

Using Web Content

By clicking on images "Import from Web" you can also upload web content like YouTube, Vimeo or TED videos, slideshare presentations or any web page. For the most popular content sites like YouTube, Vimeo and Slideshare we keep full track of the learner's progress and provide the instructor with analytic data about the behavior of the leaner on the lecture.

When you click on the "Import from Web" image a colorbox pops up and asks for the URL. Give in the field the desired URL or the embed code and click on Fetch.

Then a popup window will appear. You can edit the Title of the lecture, the Description and add some tags. You can also select the course you want to add the file to.

You do not have to add a description and tags each time you update the link. The next time that you will need to update the URL, make sure to click on the Retain Description and Tags checkbox and then click on the Fetch button. In this way, you will not lose the information that you had already added.

Please Note

  • No information is communicated between a video streaming site, like YouTube, except that time was spent there. Externally hosted videos may not continue correctly when revisited.
  • External videos, like YouTube, are controlled with the site's native video player. Options like those preventing a viewer from skipping ahead do not apply to externally streamed videos.
