Access to Reassigned Courses in Mandatory-Sequence Curriculum

Use Case

A curriculum has been configured with a mandatory course order, meaning learners must complete the courses in a specific sequence.

Scenario

A user successfully completes the curriculum. Later, one or more courses from that curriculum are reassigned to the same user.

When the user attempts to access the reassigned courses in a different order (not following the original sequence), they receive the following message: "You have to complete the previous course."

Explanation

This behavior is expected and by design.

When a curriculum has a mandatory course order, the course sequence must be respected regardless of the curriculum's completion status. Even if the user has previously completed the curriculum, any reassigned courses will still be subject to the original course order defined within the curriculum.

In other words, learners must complete the preceding course(s) before they can access a reassigned course—the mandatory order always applies.

Key Takeaway

  • A curriculum with a mandatory order enforces course sequence.
  • This rule applies even after curriculum completion.
  • Reassigned courses from such a curriculum cannot be accessed out of order.
