Overview
You can configure a default sorting option for your learners' Academy Resource items, such as Date Added: Newest to Oldest. This default sorting helps determine how Resource items are displayed when learners or admins access the Resources page.
When you use the search bar on the Resources page, the results may appear in a different order than the Academy’s default Resources sorting option. This is expected because search results are ranked based on relevance to the search term you entered.
Use Case
You have configured the items on the Academy Resources page to be sorted by Date Added: Newest to Oldest.
When you browse the Resources (Library) page normally, without entering a search term, the items follow this default sorting option.
However, when you enter a term in the search bar to look for a specific item, the search results do not follow the Date Added: Newest to Oldest order. Instead, the results are displayed based on how closely each item matches your search term.
Why this happens
The search bar on the Resources page uses a search engine to help you find matching content quickly.
When you perform a search, the search engine reviews the available resources and assigns a relevance score to each matching item. Resources that are considered more relevant to your search term are displayed first, followed by resources with lower relevance.
Because of this, search results use their own relevance-based order while a search term is applied. The Academy’s default sorting option for the Resources page does not control the order of results during an active search.
What you can do
To view resources using the Academy’s default sorting option, clear the search term from the search bar. Once the search term is removed, the relevance-based ranking is no longer applied, and the resources are displayed according to the selected sorting option.
When you want to locate a specific item, use the search bar to display the most relevant matches first. When you want to browse resources according to your preferred order, clear the search and use the available sorting options on the Resources page.
Key takeaway
The Academy’s default sorting option applies when you browse the Resources page without an active search term. When you search for a resource, the results are ranked by relevance so that the closest matches appear first.
