Connect Metrics with Courses

After you, as an Admin, have set up the metrics and metric groups in your academy, you can start pairing them. This article will focus on connecting metrics to courses. 

Admins and those with the relevant permissions can associate metrics with exam questions within courses. When these reflect the associated metrics, the score on each task can then point to the kind of jobs in which individuals may excel.

Connecting Metrics - Admin Panel

There are two ways to connect metrics with courses through the admin panel. You can either connect multiple courses to a metric, or multiple metrics to a course.

This connection must be carried to the actual exam questions of the exams within those courses. The metric should be connected to at least one exam question or you will end up analyzing false data.

Connecting One or More Courses to a Metric

To add one or more courses to a single metric, click on Admin in the top navigation bar. When in the Admin Panel, go to Metrics Management and select Manage Metrics.

This will give you an overview of all available metrics in your academy. You can use the search bar if you are looking for a specific metric. To add courses to connect to this metric, click on the View button.

This opens an overview of the metric and the connected (mapped) jobs and courses. Click on the Mapped Courses tab and select Map Courses to add more courses.

 

Select the courses you would like to connect (map) to this metric, scroll down, and select Yes, map courses to connect these courses.

The new courses will now show under this metric. To disconnect the metric from the course, click on the x under Unmap and select Yes, unmap course.

You can select to connect multiple courses at the same time. Finally, click on the Connect button to move forward to the next page where you will be able to associate this course/s with the desired metrics, grouped metrics, or job-connected metrics!

You can connect the selected Course/s with any metric, group of metrics, or job-connected metrics. To do so, just select the relevant tab, select the desired metric(s), group(s), and/or job(s), and hit Save. Please note that you can filter the metrics by industries, tiers, categories, and types and see the details available for each skill by clicking the arrow next to it.

Connecting One or More Metrics to a Courses

To add one or more metrics to a single course, go to the Admin Panel and select Metrics Management -> Map Metrics in the left navigation bar. 

Click on Courses to get a list of the available courses. This overview gives you the name, how many metric are currently connected (mapped) to the course, and an action button. Click on the eye icon under action to connect more metrics to the desired course.

The action page gives you an overview of the currently mapped metrics and when and how they got connected. Click on Add Metric to connect more metrics to the course.

Select either the individual metrics or grouped metrics and click on Map Metrics. The new metrics are now connected.

Important Note:
When connecting Metrics to a course using these options, the metric will be connected with all the existing exam questions of the exams within the Course. You can then refine the metric-exam questions connections through the Manage Exam page if needed. 

Connect Metrics Within Course / Manage Course Panel

If you wish to connect your Academy Metrics to a Course through the Manage Course page, or if you want to refine the metric-exam question connections for a Course just find the relevant Course and head to the Manage course page.

You then have two options: you can either do this from the Connect Metrics page or the Manage Exam one. Let's check both!

a) Connect Metrics page

Once you reach the Manage Course page, click on the Connect Metrics tab from the left panel. On this page, you will be able to connect an Academy Metric to the Course and also check which Metrics are connected with this course's Exams.

To connect a Metric to this Course just click on Add Academy Metric, select the needed Metric from the list, and click Save

Click on the Connected Metrics button and you will see that the Metric has been successfully connected to the Exams of this course! 

Important Note: When connecting Metrics to a Course through the Connect Metrics page, the metric will be connected with all the existing exam questions of the exams within the Course. You can then refine the metric-exam questions connections through the Manage Exam page if needed. 

b) Manage Exam

Once you reach the Manage (Video) Exam page, click on the Edit (Video) Questions tab and you will see all the questions that are included in this exam. Find a question you want to connect to a Metric and click Edit Question.  From this page, you are able to:

  • Connect the Question with an Academy Metric
  • Connect the Question with a Metric that is already connected with the associated Course
  • Disconnect the Question from a Metric

To Connect the Question with an Academy Metric, click on Add Academy Metric. The list of metrics presented includes all the Metrics that you have added to your Academy. Select the needed Metric from the list, click Close, and then click Save Question to save your changes!

Please note that in this case, any Academy Metric that is connected to an Exam Question will automatically be connected to the associated Course as well.

To Connect the Question with a Metric that is already connected with the associated Course, click on Add from Course Metrics. The list of metrics presented includes all the Metrics that you have connected with this course. Select the needed Metric from the list, click Close, and then click Save Question to save your changes!

To disconnect the Question from a Metric you can either click on the bin icon next to the Metric or click on the Add from Course Metrics, uncheck the Metric in question and click Close. Don't forget to click Save Question to save your changes! 

View Metrics 

If you need to review which Metrics you have connected with which Questions, you can easily do from the View Metrics page! Just head to the Manage Exam page and select View Metrics from the left panel. At the top of the page, you will see all the Metrics that are connected with this Exam, regardless of the question they are connected with.

If you need a more in-depth look, just click on Connected Metrics under a question and you will see which Metrics are connected with this Specific Question.

Filtering Courses based on the Connected Metrics

After you connect your Academy's courses with metrics, your academy members will be able to filter their course training based on the connected metric a course has. The Metrics tab will be available for the users under the Courses page, where they will be able to select a metric, to see all the courses connected with this Metric. Moreover, they could select a Group of Metrics and see all the courses that are connected to a metric of this group.

Please note that the metrics listed to a user, are only those that are connected with courses that the user has access to.

Connecting Metrics - Courses

When a course is connected with Performance Metrics, then the connected metrics will be displayed on the Course's About page, so that you and your Academy members will be able to locate them easily!

When you create a curriculum that includes courses that are connected with your academy's Performance Metrics, then all metrics that the curricula courses are associated with will be displayed on the curriculum card. This way a user will know what kind of skills/competencies they will receive by completing the curriculum in question.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: Does the course need an exam to connect skills to it?
A1: No, skills can be connected to a course whether the course has an exam or not. For users to take an online assessment on a skill, an exam is needed – the skill should be connected to at least one exam question and the user needs to complete the course exam..


Q2: What if we only have a SCORM exam in our course?
A2: SCORM exams can give online assessments if their questions are connected to skill(s).

 
Q3: Will the skills be connected to the SCORM exam?
A3: If you connect the SCORM exam to the questions upon creation of the course, there will be a connection. If you create the SCORM exam (or any exam) and you connect the course to skills later, the skill with be connected to the exam questions. If you connect the course to a skill and add the exam after this, the skill will not be automatically connected to the exam, and you would need to connect this manually.


Q4: What happens if a course is completed by admin?
A4: Nothing. Online assessment will be given only if the trainee is the one to complete the course exam that has connected skill(s).


General info: If a user has completed an exam that has no connected skills and skills are connected to that exam (questions) afterwards, the assessments is not retroactive. User will not get any online assessment in that case because they completed the exam before the skills got connected.
