LinkedIn Learning Course Skills Integration

Release date 11 November

Your LinkedIn Learning courses can now bring their skills along with them. When an admin turns on the new Sync LinkedIn skills setting, the skills LinkedIn associates with your LinkedIn Learning courses are added to your academy, mapped to those courses, and kept up to date, so you no longer have to create and maintain them by hand. The setting is off by default, so you decide when LinkedIn skills start appearing.

Feature Highlights

A Skill Sync Setting You Control. Turn Sync LinkedIn skills on or off from your LinkedIn Learning integration settings. It is off by default for every academy.

Skills Added and Mapped Automatically. LinkedIn skills are created in your academy and mapped to the LinkedIn courses they come from, with no manual set-up.

Clearly Labeled LinkedIn Skills. Every skill that comes from LinkedIn is marked as such, so you always know where it came from.

Protected Details, Flexible Mappings. LinkedIn keeps a skill's title and languages accurate, while you stay in control of descriptions and of the mappings you make yourself.

You Decide What to Archive. Turning the setting on or off never archives or unarchives skills automatically.

Sync LinkedIn Skills Setting

The Sync LinkedIn skills setting is found in Academy Settings, with the LinkedIn Learning integration settings. It appears only when Skills Management is available to your academy, and it is off by default for every academy, including academies that already use LinkedIn Learning and Skills. Nothing changes in your academy until an admin turns it on.

When you turn the setting on, Schoox adds skills in the background for your existing LinkedIn courses, so the skills appear once the update finishes rather than instantly. Turning the setting off pauses skill sync only. Your LinkedIn courses are not affected, skills already synced stay in your academy, and nothing is archived automatically.

Skills Added and Mapped Automatically

With sync on, the skills LinkedIn associates with your LinkedIn Learning courses are created as active skills in your academy and placed in a LinkedIn skills group. Each one is mapped automatically to the LinkedIn course or courses it comes from, and stays in step with LinkedIn as those associations change. LinkedIn skills then work like any other skill in your academy when you map skills to courses and jobs.

Clearly Labeled and Protected

In Legacy, the LinkedIn-origin indicator appears inside the skill's Skill Details block in the Active Skills list, so you can tell at a glance which skills came from LinkedIn.

Because LinkedIn manages a skill's title and languages, those two fields are locked for LinkedIn skills, and a tooltip explains why. You can still add and edit a description, and you keep control of everything else about the skill.

Skill and course details also show where a mapping came from, including Added from, Date mapped, Reasoning, and Mapped by, which show LinkedIn Integration for mappings Schoox created automatically.

Mappings and Archiving Stay in Your Hands

A mapping that Schoox created automatically between a LinkedIn skill and its LinkedIn course cannot be unmapped by hand, and a tooltip explains why. Mappings you make yourself, to your own courses and to jobs, can be managed as freely as for any other skill.

Archiving is always an admin decision. While sync is on and a skill is automatically mapped to a LinkedIn course, the archive option is unavailable; otherwise you can archive and unarchive skills as you do today. If you turn the setting off and later back on, skills you archived stay archived.

If a skill suggested during mapping matches a LinkedIn skill you already have, the duplicate step does not offer to replace it, so LinkedIn skills are never overridden.
