Event Retention After Archiving Course or Curriculum

Release date 16 September

By default, events that were connected to archived courses and curricula (learning paths) were automatically converted to stand-alone events and kept active. This wasn't always ideal in some situations.

This feature adds an option to archive the associated events with the course or curriculum, instead.

When a course or curriculum is archived, two new options will appear, alongside the existing course options.

Choose How the Event Is Handled

When you archive a course or curriculum with a connected event, you’ll be asked what you want to do with the associated event or events:

  • Leave the event active and disconnect it from the course or curriculum -- this converts it to a standalone event, the same behavior as before.
  • Archive the event and keep it connected to the course or curriculum -- this keeps the event’s attendance and completion records tied to the course or curriculum.

Reporting Stays Connected

When you choose to keep an archived event connected, its attendance and completion data continues to show up in the course or curriculum’s own reports -- in report builder, the API, and the relevant dashboard views.

Restoring a Course or Curriculum

If you later restore an archived course or curriculum, any events that were archived together with it are restored too, with their attendance records intact. An event that was already archived before the course or curriculum was archived stays archived.
